Mike Werdann & Bobby Cassone from
Highlands, just got back from a successful tuna trip down in North Carolina.
They were part of a group that chartered a Carolina Built 53' down in Cape
Hatteras. They boated 17 blue Fin tunas in 2 days of fishing. Actually they
released 12 and only kept one per boat per day. Mike came back physically
exhausted but mentally cleansed. There is nothing like reeling in big tuna up to
250lbs! . The charter boat used a combination chunk and troll method, believe it
or not. The sea conditions were rough, 8 to 10 foot swells out in the gulf
stream. It sounds like they had an outstanding time of it and the
photos he brought back are proof! My scanner is out but I will soon
post them here. Sorry Mike.
Also check out our list
of tournaments for 2000. There will be more to come.

The word is ice bound. I didn't get out on the ice
but Fltcher Chayse did and he said that the eel spear fishing was good if you
could get through the 12" of ice. He said that the most they would get out of
one hole was 3 eels and then would have to cut another spot. The guys he spoke
with said that it is not like the old days when each hole in the Shrewsbury
could produce at least a 1/2 dozen.
All of the local party boats are idle. The Big
Mohak III in Belmar reports no ice and plenty of ling, cod and a few sea bass.

Don't worry, winter flounder is just around
the corner.
